Miami Dark Sky Week
Discover the Night during Miami Dark Sky Week 2021!
Join us April 2021 when Miamians and other South Floridians will celebrate the wonder and value of the natural nocturnal environment and explore the night sky. Miami-Dade County and neighbors all over Florida will #DiscoverTheNight via fun and educational activities at home and close to home, as well as virtual events on the web. There will be opportunities to learn about the impacts of artificial light at night on humans, wildlife, ecology, and the climate; and how we can protect and restore the health and wonder of the nighttime world in South Florida. Check our Miami Dark Sky calendar and website, over and over again, as we continue to add events, activities, stories and resources during the entire month of April.
In Miami, in the Everglades, in the Keys, a world with less light pollution offers us countless wonders!
Let’s #DiscoverTheNight together.
Partners in government, in academia and in non-profit will be bringing together various types of activities during Miami Dark Sky Week. These will include, among others: virtual talks on how light pollution affects wildlife and how to protect FL remaining dark sky areas; educational displays at government public buildings; stargazing and night walks in our national parks; virtual reality experiences; and citizen science opportunities. To help raise awareness, Miami-Dade County buildings are also planning to turn off non-security lighting after 8 pm EDT during Miami Dark Sky Week.
